I am not a glutton - I am an explorer of
food” ― Erma Bombeck
It’s a Saturday morning and this little boy brushes his eyes, crawls out of bed and heads to the kitchen. He knows today, like all the Saturday’s that preceded this one, as he hears the sound of steam going off from a heavy-bottom pressure cooker, the clanking of kitchen utensils, or the buzz of witty banter, something new will satisfy his appetite.
food” ― Erma Bombeck
It’s a Saturday morning and this little boy brushes his eyes, crawls out of bed and heads to the kitchen. He knows today, like all the Saturday’s that preceded this one, as he hears the sound of steam going off from a heavy-bottom pressure cooker, the clanking of kitchen utensils, or the buzz of witty banter, something new will satisfy his appetite.
As far as he was
concerned the possibilities are endless. It could have been the thought of
white crystalline sugar being cooked into this amber syrup to be glazed atop a
flan, or maybe the sizzling sound of sauteed or better yet deep-fat fried
culinary delight such as pork or poultry, or a braise, which perfumes the house
of aromas, some familiar others foreign, as if to gesture that something,
anything, was about to revealed in their humble kitchen.
Little did he know that
decades from this day he would find himself documenting his adventures and sharing
his love for food, photography, and travel with people from different walks of
life.
To be quite honest, my love
of food, photography and travel wasn’t that all prominent. You could say I was
a late bloomer of sorts and it wasn’t late into my 20’s when I realized what
potentials I had or what passions grew dormant inside me.
I wasn’t as lucky like
most people were. Those times were cruel to me. I was groomed to be a proper
young man. Study hard, get a good job
and live a practical life. Being a
writer/blogger, a food photographer, was far down the list of my priorities. And
most of the things I know about photography and food I learned on my own. I am
self-taught in most respects, so I am always eager to be corrected and educated
on these matters. But I want you, as my reader to understand how we got here.
So here’s my story.
Remember that tale I spun
earlier? It was anything but that. I was that little boy and every Saturday
morning I would be excited to go to the kitchen and find out what my mother was
preparing. She loved to cook back then, and most of my favorite dishes and my
standards for them come from what she used to make during those Saturday
mornings. However, I was never inclined
to cook. You could say I grew a conventional man, I loved to eat but I never
wanted to prepare it. Fast forward decades
later and a woman wiser, who actually brought this passion of mine out, and now
I love being in the kitchen cooking, experimenting with new ingredients, eager
to taste new flavors, try new cookery techniques, even watching food channels
practically all day and reading books and articles. I never knew that the world
of food was so vast and full of new discoveries. In this blog I aim to share my
experiences and knowledge about food and the simple things I might know about
cookery and then some.
Amateur food photographer, traveler, and a food enthusiast and this is my adventure. Join me in my culinary
adventures as I discover what is out and about in the world of food and travel.
